Two masterpieces at the service of evangelization by Raphael and Ghirlandaio

The beautiful tapestry, “The Stoning of Saint Stephen”, by Raffaello Sanzio, will be on display in the Sala dei Papi (Hall of Popes) of Castel Gandolfo’s Pontifical Palace, while the painting, “The Adoration of the Child”, by Domenico Bigordi, known as Ghirlandaio, will be on display in the Palace’s lower floor, along with four paintings of the Nativity by Masters of the 15th century.

Accumuler dans le ciel, c’est-à-dire en donnant, afin de refléter la lumière et non les ténèbres qui apportent la tristesse. C’est ainsi que s’est exprimé S.Exc. C’est aussi bientôt Noël au Palais pontifical de Castel Gandolfo et l’atmosphère est animée et colorée par l’ambiance caractéristique des fêtes. L’expression la plus évidente de cette atmosphère est la série d’initiatives qui ont eu lieu dans la matinée du mardi 10 décembre, dont l’inauguration de la crèche et l’illumination de l’arbre de Noël.

Anche al Palazzo Pontificio di Castel Gandolfo sta arrivando Natale e l’atmosfera si anima e si colora del caratteristico clima delle feste. L’espressione più evidente è la serie di iniziative, che si sono svolte martedì mattina, 10 dicembre, tra le quali, l’inaugurazione del presepe e l’accensione delle luci dell’albero di Natale.

La Navidad también se avecina al Palacio Pontificio de Castel Gandolfo, llenando el ambiente de vida, color y el característico espíritu festivo. La manifestación más evidente de este clima ha sido la serie de actividades realizadas en la mañana del martes 10 de diciembre, entre las que destacaron la inauguración del belén y el encendido de las luces del árbol de Navidad.

Por primera vez, en casi noventa años desde su construcción, las cúpulas astronómicas del Palacio Pontificio de Castel Gandolfo abren sus puertas a los visitantes. Se trata de dos observatorios astronómicos totalmente operativos de la Specola Vaticana: la “cúpula mayor”, con un diámetro de 8,5 metros, equipada con un telescopio visual para la observación de estrellas y planetas; y la “cúpula menor”, con un diámetro de 8 metros, que alberga el Doble Astrografo, utilizado para realizar estudios fotográficos del cielo y la posición de los astros.

Un moment historique

Un moment historique, car c’est la première fois que les fanfares des Corps de la Gendarmerie et de la Garde suisse pontificale ont joué ensemble. Le concert, en présence du Pape Léon XIV, s’est tenu dans la soirée du lundi 29 septembre, dans la cour du Palais apostolique de Castel Gandolfo, à l’occasion de la fête de saint Michel Archange, patron de l’État de la Cité du Vatican.

L’engagement des Villas pontificales

Accueilli par une foule en liesse, le Pape Léon XIV est arrivé dans l’après-midi du dimanche 6 juillet à la Villa Barberini, où il séjournera jusqu’au dimanche 20 juillet.

Pour la première fois depuis près de quatre-vingt-dix ans, les coupoles astronomiques du Palais pontifical de Castel Gandolfo ouvrent leurs portes aux visiteurs. Il s'agit de deux observatoires astronomiques de la « Specola Vaticana » parfaitement fonctionnant : la « grande coupole », d'un diamètre de 8,5 mètres, équipée d'un Télescope visuel pour l'observation des étoiles et des planètes ; et la « petite coupole », d'un diamètre de 8 mètres, équipée d'un Double astrographe pour les relevés photographiques du ciel et de la position des astres.

The Dedication of the Pontifical Villas

Welcomed by a joyful crowd, Pope Leo XIV arrived on Sunday afternoon, July 6th, at the estate of Villa Barberini in Castel Gandolfo, where he will stay until Sunday, July 20th.
Earlier that day, during the Angelus, before departing, the Holy Father had said: “This afternoon I will be going to Castel Gandolfo, where I plan to stay for a brief period of rest. I wish everyone the opportunity to enjoy a time of vacation to refresh both body and spirit.”

Ninety years since their construction, the astronomical domes of the Pontifical Palace of Castel Gandolfo will be open to visitors for the first time ever. Visitors will be able to see the Vatican Observatory’s two perfectly functioning  domes: the “major dome”, which has a diameter of 8.5 meters, and is equipped with a Visual Telescope for the observation of stars and planets; and the “minor dome”, which has a diameter of 8 metres and a Double Astrograph, used for photographic surveys of the sky and of the position of the stars. A Historic Moment

It was indeed a historic moment, for the first time ever the musical bands of the Corps of the Gendarmerie and the Pontifical Swiss Guard performed together. The concert, held in the presence of Pope Leo XIV, took place on the evening of Monday, September 29, in the courtyard of the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo, on the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, Patron of Vatican City State.
