La World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) s’est achevée avec la participation de 3.700 délégués de plus de 160 pays, battant tous les records de présence. La dernière session a eu lieu à New Delhi, la capitale de l’Inde, le jeudi 24 octobre. La Délégation du Vatican, dirigée par Sœur Raffaella Petrini, Secrétaire générale du Gouvernorat de l’État de la Cité du Vatican, était composée d’Antonino Intersimone, Directeur des télécommunications et des systèmes informatiques, de Luigi Salimbeni, Vice-Directeur de la Direction des télécommunications et des systèmes informatiques du Gouvernorat, et de Sergio Salvatori, fonctionnaire technique de la Direction technologique du Dicastère pour la communication.

Une importance stratégique pour les nouvelles technologies

Une délégation de l'État de la Cité du Vatican participera à la World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24), à New Delhi du 15 au 24 octobre, et au Global Standard Symposium (GSS-24) le 14 octobre. C'est l'occasion de faire le point sur l'évolution des technologies, des normes et de l'organisation des télécommunications au Vatican. L'Assemblée WTSA et le Symposium GSS sont organisés par l'ITU-T, c’est-à-dire par l’International Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication Standardization Bureau. Il s'agit du secteur de l'ITU chargé de réglementer les télécommunications téléphoniques et télégraphiques. Nous en avons parlé avec l'ingénieur Luigi Salimbeni, Vice-Directeur de la Direction des télécommunications et des systèmes informatiques du Gouvernorat de l'État de la Cité du Vatican, qui participera à l'Assemblée mondiale.

As part of AI for Good summit, and at the conclusion of the week organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) within the framework of the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, the morning of July 11 featured a particularly significant event: the Ambassadors Roundtable, a high-level discussion platform that brought together ambassadors and permanent representatives from major international missions to the United Nations in Geneva. Among them was Archbishop Ettore Balestrero, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations Office and Specialized Agencies in Geneva.

La Asamblea será precedida por el Simposio Global de Normalización (GSS-24), que se llevará a cabo el 14 de octubre, donde la Hna. Petrini pronunciará su intervención oficial.

Sr. Raffaella Petrini, Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State, will lead a State Delegation at the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24), scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India, from 15 to 24 October 2024. During the Assembly, which will meet after the Global Standard Symposium (GSS-24),  which will take place on 14 October,  Sr. Petrini will deliver an official address.

Sr. Raffaella Petrini, Segretario Generale del Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano, guiderà una Delegazione dello Stato alla World Telecommunication Standardization Assemby (WTSA-24), che si terrà dal 15 al 24 ottobre 2024, a New Delhi in India. L’Assemblea sarà preceduta dal Global Standard Symposium (GSS-24), che si svolgerà il 14 ottobre, nel corso del quale Sr. Petrini terrà il suo intervento ufficiale.

Dans le cadre de l’initiative AI for Good, au terme de la semaine organisée par l’UIT et dans le contexte du WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, la matinée du 11 juillet a été marquée par un événement de tout premier plan : la Table ronde des ambassadeurs, un forum de dialogue de haut niveau réunissant les ambassadeurs et les représentants permanents des principales missions internationales auprès des Nations Unies à Genève. Parmi eux, se trouvait S.Exc. Mgr Mgr Ettore Balestrero, Observateur permanent du Saint-Siège auprès du Bureau des Nations Unies et des Institutions spécialisées à Genève.

Strategic importance of new technologies

A Vatican City State Delegation will participate in the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly, (WTSA-24) from 15 to 24 October, and in the Global Standard Symposium (GSS-24) on 14 October. Both will take place in New Delhi. It will be an opportunity to evaluate developments in the technological, normative and organizational aspects of Vatican telecommunications. The WTSA and the GSS are organized by the ITU-T, that is, by the International Telecommunication Union -- Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, the ITU section responsible for regulating telephone and telegraphic telecommunications. We spoke about this with Mr. Luigi Salimbeni, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of Vatican City State, who will take part in the global Assembly.

The Secretary General of the Governorate, Sr. Raffaella Petrini, and the Director of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems, Mr. Antonino Intersimone, respectively, Chief and member of the Vatican Delegation to the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24), are back in New Delhi for the conclusion of the global assembly. Una delegación de la Gobernación del Estado de la Ciudad del Vaticano participa en el encuentro académico con la Secretaria General de la Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones, en inglés con el acrónimo (U.I.T.), la Señora Doreen Bogdan-Martin. El encuentro es promovido por la Cátedra UNESCO sobre el futuro de la educación para la sostenibilidad de la Pontificia Universidad Lateranense, y se lleva a cabo la mañana del miércoles 20 de noviembre.

Una Delegazione del Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano partecipa all’incontro accademico con il Segretario Generale dell’Unione Internazionale delle Telecomunicazioni, in inglese con acronimo (I.T.U.), la Signora Doreen Bogdan-Martin. L’incontro è promosso dalla Cattedra Unesco sul futuro dell’educazione alla sostenibilità della Pontificia Università Lateranense, e si svolge, mercoledì mattina, 20 novembre.

La réunion est promue par la Chaire UNESCO sur l’Avenir de l’éducation à la durabilité de l’Université pontificale du Latran, et a lieu dans la matinée du mercredi 20 novembre.

Human development requires the ethical use of technology

Integral human development “calls forth an ethically responsible use of technology”.  If this is true for relatively simple technologies, “it is even more necessary in relation to the use of artificial intelligence, which, in the words of Pope Francis, ‘represents a true cognitive-industrial revolution’”, Sr. Raffaella Petrini, Secretary General of the Governorate, highlighted in her address at the ITU Global Standard Symposium (GSS-24). Sr. Petrini, who heads the Vatican Delegation, was speaking to the High Level Segment on the theme “ Catalyzing Change: Industry & Ministerial Leaders Crafting the Future of Innovation”. The global conference took place on 14 October in New Delhi, India, ahead of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) which will be held from 15-20 October.

The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) has concluded, with a record number of attendance: 3,700 delegates from 160 countries. The last session took place in India’s capital city, New Delhi, on Thursday, 24 October, and was attended by a Vatican Delegation, led by Sr. Raffaella Petrini, Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State. Members of the Vatican Delegation included, Mr. Antonino Intersimone and Mr. Salimbeni, respectively, Director and Deputy Director of the Governorate’s Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems, and Mr. Sergio Salvatori, technical official of the Technological Direction of the Dicastery for Communication.
