During these days dedicated to the memory of Saint Francis of Assisi, we recall one of the most universally recognized figures in human history, one of extraordinary simplicity, fraternity and profound respect for creation. His example continues to speak to people of every culture and generation, inviting us to rediscover the value of what is essential and the importance of caring for others.
The Vatican has chosen to celebrate and preserve his memory through a number of numismatic issues that portray his life through its most significant events, places and moments.
From the locations associated with his spiritual journey, such as La Verna, to the Canticle of the Creatures, the Renunciation of Worldly Goods and the Stigmata, each issue offers an opportunity to retrace the life of the Saint of Assisi and rediscover the depth of his witness. Through numismatics, this rich legacy of images and symbols keeps alive the memory of a man who made peace, fraternity and love for creation the true center of his life.
