Population
Vatican City State currently has 673 citizens, 458 of whom, live inside the walls (including 120 members of the Pontifical Swiss Guard).
Some 30% of Vatican citizens thus, do not reside inside the State, but in other countries, mostly because of their specific functions (in particular diplomatic employees). Acquiring and losing citizenship, permits to reside within the State’s territory and any other formality related to access are regulated by specific provisions, issued in line with the Lateran Treaty.
