    Willibrord naquit vers l’an 658 dans la région de la Northumbrie, en Angleterre. Sa formation débuta au monastère de Ripon, où il reçut une solide éducation religieuse. À l’âge de vingt ans, il décida d’approfondir ses études théologiques en Irlande, sous la direction d’un abbé nommé Egbert. Vers la trentaine, il fut ordonné prêtre et, avec un groupe de onze compagnons, partit pour le continent afin de diffuser le christianisme dans les terres encore païennes de la Frise et du nord de l’Allemagne.

    Willibrord was born around 658 in the English region of Northumbria. His education began at the monastery of Ripon, where he received a solid religious formation. At the age of twenty, he decided to deepen his theological studies in Ireland under the guidance of an abbot named Egbert. Around the age of thirty, he was ordained a priest and, together with a group of eleven companions, set out for the continent to spread Christianity in the still pagan lands of Frisia and northern Germany.
