  • Inaugurated in the Vatican Gardens the Mosaic of Our Lady of Luján

    In memory of Blessed Cardinal Pironio

    The close bond between the See of Peter and Argentina was renewed with the placement in the Vatican Gardens of a mosaic of Our Lady of Luján, Patroness of the South American nation. The solemn blessing and inauguration of the image took place on the morning of Tuesday, September 9, in the presence of Cardinals Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, Leonardo Sandri, Vice Dean of the College of Cardinals and Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President Emeritus of the Governorate of Vatican City State,  Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Monsignors Lucio Adrián Ruiz, Secretary of the Dicastery of Communications and  Guillermo Javier Karcher, Official of the Secretariat of State, Sister Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate, H.E. Luis Pablo María Beltramino, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Holy See, bishops, priests, religious men and women, and representatives of the Argentine community residing in Rome.

    The majestic Christmas tree was illuminated and the artistic Nativity scene was unveiled to the sound of traditional music and carols. The moment has arrived when the faithful, pilgrims and visitors can admire the Christmas installations in St. Peter’s Square.

  • Inaugurati il presepe e l’albero

    «Simboli della tragedia e della speranza», il presepe e l’albero inaugurati in piazza San Pietro nel pomeriggio di giovedì 5 dicembre hanno richiamato alla memoria la tempesta che nell’ottobre scorso ha flagellato il nord-est dell’Italia, radendo al suolo centinaia di migliaia di piante e mettendo in ginocchio intere comunità. Proprio alcuni tronchi provenienti dalle zone colpite dal nubifragio sono stati collocati sullo sfondo del paesaggio della natività offerta da Scurelle, piccolo centro della Valsugana, in provincia di Trento, e posta accanto al maestoso abete rosso giunto dal territorio del comune di Rotzo e delle frazioni di Pedescala e San Pietro, in provincia di Vicenza.

    Due simboli che rappresentano —ha spiegato all’inizio della cerimonia il cardinale Bertello, presidente delGovernatorato, la cui Direzione infrastrutture e servizi ha curato gli addobbi e l’illuminazione in collaborazione con la Osram — «l’espressione della fede di una popolazione che ha saputo tradurre i suoi sentimenti in arte e che adesso mette tutto ciò a disposizione dell’universalità della Chiesa». Da parte sua il vescovo segretario Vérgez Alzaga, prendendo la parola in conclusione, ha ribadito che il Natale deve essere per tutti «un’occasione per riscoprire la solidarietà verso il creato e le sue creature, a cominciare dall’umanità ferita e bisognosa di aiuto».

    Alla cerimonia, allietata dalle musiche eseguite dalla banda del Corpo della Gendarmeria vaticana, diretta dal maestro Cimini, e dal coro Lagorai di Torcegno, e animata dalle coreografie del gruppo tamburi e sbandieratori della Dama Castellana di Conegliano Veneto — il comune del Gruppo presepio artistico Parè, in provincia di Treviso, che ha curato l’allestimento della natività nell’Aula Paolo VI — sono intervenuti, tra gli altri, l’arcivescovo di Trento, Lauro Tisi, e i vescovi di Padova, Claudio Cipolla, e di Vittorio Veneto, Corrado Pizziolo; padre García de la Serrana Villalobos; le autorità della regione Veneto, della provincia autonoma di Trento e dei comuni di provenienza del presepe e dell’albero.

  • INAUGURATION CEREMONY FOR THE NATIVITY SCENE AND THE LIGHTING OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE IN SAINT PETER’S SQUARE

    Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga and Sr. Raffaella Petrini, respectively, President and Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State, will inaugurate the Nativity Scene and light the Christmas tree, that will be on display in Saint Peter’s Square throughout the Christmas season. The inauguration ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m., on 7 December.

    Symbol of the Mission of the Trinitarians

    On Thursday morning, 5 December, a mosaic depicting Christ Pantocrator, made by young people with disabilities and their teachers, was officially inaugurated in the Vatican Gardens. The impressive mosaic was the result of a collaboration with the mosaics laboratory of the Centro di Riabilitazione Ada “Ceschin Pilone” (rehabilitation centre) of the Institute of the Trinitarian Fathers of Venosa-Bernalda. Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, presided over the inauguration ceremony.

  • Inauguration of a new mobile post office in Saint Peter’s Square, in the presence of Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga and General Manager of Poste Italiane, Mr. Giuseppe Lasco

    Connecting the world

    A new mobile post office has been inaugurated in Saint Peter’s Square, just a few days before the opening of the Holy Door.

    The inauguration ceremony, with the symbolic handing over of the keys and the signing of the Act of Donation, took place on Thursday morning, 19 December.

    Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, and the General Manager of Poste Italiane, Giuseppe Lasco, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony and signed the Act of Donation. Poste Italiane commissioned the project for the new post office to Amdl Circle and to the architect Michele De Lucchi, and then donated it to the Governorate.

  • Inauguration of a new over-the-counter pharmacy in the Charlemagne Wing of Saint Peter’s Square

    Brother Thomas Binish Mulackal, of the Fatebenefratelli Order (Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God), inaugurated an over-the-counter pharmacy in the Charlemagne Wing of Saint Peter’s Square on Monday morning, 16 December. Fr. Iulian Misariu, OFM Conv., Chaplain, blessed the premises for the occasion.

    On Friday morning, 14 June, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, blessed and inaugurated the Library of the Third Lodge of the Apostolic Palace after the completion of restoration works carried out by the Governorate’s Directorates for Infrastructure and Services, of Telecommunication and Information Systems and of Museums and Cultural Heritage.

  • Inauguration of the “San Francesco e Santa Chiara” nursery school inside the Vatican

    The new “San Francesco e Santa Chiara” (Saints Francis and Clare) nursery school inside Vatican City will be inaugurated on Monday, April 14, at 5:00 p.m. The premises will be blessed by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President Emeritus of the Governorate of the Vatican City State. The exhibition titled, “Bernini’s Souls”, which was inaugurated on Tuesday afternoon, 19 November, at the Vatican Museums, by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, and by H.E. Ms. Maria María Isabel Celaá Diéguez, Ambassador of Spain to the Holy See, is an expression of the close relationship between artistic masterpieces and charity. In his address, Cardinal Vérgez Alzaga expressed his sympathy to those affected by the “disastrous DANA storm system of 29 October, which devasted the Region of Valencia and other regions in Spain, last week, including Malaga and Granada”, and ensured his prayers for the victims.

La cerimonia del taglio del nastro si è svolta, lunedì pomeriggio, 14 aprile, in una palazzina in via San Luca.
