At the Pontifical Lateran University, a specialized course on the Law of Vatican City State

From February 23 to May 27, the Pontifical Lateran University will host the course entitled “Law of the Vatican City State,” coordinated by Matteo Carnì, Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Civil Law of the same University.

The course offers a series of lectures intended for those who wish to acquire specialized expertise in Vatican State law, whether for academic or professional purposes. The lectures offer an in-depth study of the legal system of the Vatican City State, highlighting its uniqueness among contemporary state systems. The program also provides a comprehensive understanding of the historical, normative, and institutional foundations that govern the Vatican legal sphere.

The syllabus includes an examination of the role of the State in the international context, as well as the economic and financial aspects that characterize its functioning. Particular attention is devoted to the administrative and judicial organization and to the principal areas of Vatican law, including civil, criminal, administrative, and labor law, considered in their practical application.

A distinctive feature of the course is the contribution of lecturers and speakers who hold prominent positions within Vatican institutions, thus offering students a direct perspective on the legal and administrative dynamics of the State. Among the speakers are Attorney Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, Secretary General of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Professor Venerando Marano, President of the Tribunal of the Vatican City State, Professor Paolo Papanti-Pelletier, Sole Judge of the Vatican City State, Professor Vincenzo Buonomo, General Counsel of the Vatican City State, Professor Roberto Zannotti, Deputy Promoter of Justice of the Vatican City State, Professor Settimio Carmignani Caridi, Deputy Promoter of Justice of the Vatican City State, and Dr. Alessandro Cassinis Righini, Auditor General of the Vatican City State.

Classes will be held with limited enrollment and offered in a combined format (in person and online).
