A japanese delegation visits the vatican post office

On Monday, 21 October 2024, the Post and Philately Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems had the pleasure of welcoming the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, H.E.  Mr. Yoshifumi Tsuge, the Ambassador of Japan to the Holy See, H.E. Mr. Akira Chiba, and a small representative Delegation. The guests were accompanied on their visit by the Director of Telecommunications and Information Systems, Mr. Antonino Intersimone, Office Manager, Fr. Felice Bruno, and  a group of representatives of the Service.

During the visit to the postal service of Vatican City State, the guests had the opportunity of seeing part of the pipelines used in the pneumatic mail system, a mechanism for delivering mail in which cylindrical containers were propelled through networks of tubes by compressed air, and sent to the Secretariat or the Palace of the Governorate.

The group was led through the mail sorting area, to the area where mail addressed to Vatican City State is organized, and then to the graphics studio where philatelic emissions are produced and the central main register, where the Delegation had a “close encounter” with various series of stamps.

At the end of the tour, members of the Delegation were given the possibility of using the services of the Vatican Post, by writing a card to their loved ones, and mailing it in the post boxes in front of the central post office of the Post and Philately Service.
