    Una de las personalidades más relevantes de los primeros tiempos del cristianismo es san Ignacio de Antioquía, obispo que vivió en las primeras décadas del siglo II y venerado como mártir por su fe inquebrantable. La tradición afirma que fue elegido para guiar la comunidad cristiana de Antioquía por el mismo san Pedro.

La tradizione afferma che fu scelto per guidare la comunità cristiana di Antiochia dallo stesso San Pietro. Celebre è il suo trasferimento forzato da Antiochia a Roma, durante il quale, prigioniero, scrisse sette lettere che oggi rappresentano una testimonianza preziosissima della fede dei primi cristiani.
