The President of the Governorate at the AI Governance Day

The fourth event of the WSIS+20 Week and the third day of AI for Good took place at the Geneva Palaexpo for Governance Day. At the heart of the event was the AI Governance Dialogue Roundtable Lunch, attended by the President of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Sister Raffaella Petrini.

Attendance was limited to 200 internationally prominent participants, divided among 20 roundtables, each including ministers, state regulatory officials, United Nations representatives, industry leaders, and academics.

The event was opened by Robert Trager, followed by a welcome address by the Secretary-General, Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin. This was followed by three keynote speakers: H.E. Mr. Alar Karis, President of Estonia, Sir Robert Trager, Co-Director of the AI Governance Initiative at the Oxford Martin School in the U.K. and Ms. Rahayu Mahzam, Singapore Minister of State at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

Following the keynote addresses, participants shared their views in an open discussion.

The main focus of the discussion was the urgent need to identify and define a comprehensive framework of policies, regulations, standards, and oversight mechanisms to govern the development, implementation, and use of Artificial Intelligence—ensuring safety, transparency, fairness, and compliance.
