WSIS Forum and AI for Good Global Summit 2026 Conclude in Geneva

The Need for Dialogue in a Rapidly Changing World

At a pivotal moment in history, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the Holy See’s presence and its openness to dialogue. This was the message conveyed in the address, signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, to the participants of the AI for Good Global Summit. The text was read by Archbishop Ettore Balestrero, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations Office and Specialized Institutions in Geneva, Permanent Observer to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Representative of the Holy See to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Pope’s Message marked one of the most significant moments of the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, which concluded on Friday, 10 July. The Summit was held in Geneva, Switzerland, and organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with other United Nations agencies and co-organized by the Swiss Government.

The WSIS Forum 2026 also came to a close. Held in Geneva from 6 to 10 July 2026, it is widely recognized as the world's leading global platform dedicated to shaping the future of digital development.

The WSIS Forum 2026 brought together policymakers, academics, representatives of civil society, and private-sector stakeholders to identify strategies for promoting an inclusive digital transformation. The Forum provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration and productive exchange aimed at fostering sustainable development that benefits the entire global community.

The WSIS Forum 2026 also served as a global platform for discussing priorities and setting agendas for the future. Particular attention was devoted to the latest developments in artificial intelligence and to initiatives designed to strengthen digital infrastructure. The Forum also offered an important venue for highlighting the risks associated with cyberspace, including cybersecurity threats, the spread of false news, and issues related to data protection and preservation.

A delegation from the Holy See and the Governorate of the Vatican City State took an active part in the Forum’s proceedings.
