The Vatican and Italy issue a joint stamp on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Venice Foundation for Research on Peace
Vatican City State and Italy, through the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, will issue a joint stamp to commemorate the institution of the Venice Foundation for Research on Peace.
The stamp will be officially presented at noon on Thursday, 14 November 2024, at the headquarters of the Foreign Press Association in Rome.
By issuing this stamp, the promoters hope to send a message and an appeal for peace, that will travel across the world.
As detailed by the Post and Philately Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems, the stamp’s background is an ancient map of Venice, bearing the Foundation’s logo, the outline of a dove. Its contour recalls the shape of a Venetian gondola’s bow, with its so-called “iron of the prow”, made of seven serrations that symbolize the Doge’s hat and the sestieri (districts) into which Venice is subdivided. Its amaranth colour is also a reference to Venice, and is inspired by the Banner of Saint Mark, the traditional flag of Venice.
The Foundation was instituted on 3 November 1999. According to Article 2 of its statute, it has the aim of “carrying out research activities in cooperation with national and international bodies and institutions on issues related to security, development and peace, and implementing and promoting initiatives aimed at publishing results of the research undertaken”. The Foundation’s President, Antonio Silvio Calò, explained that over the years, the Foundation “has implemented actions which, taking account of the social and political contexts, have fostered peace processes, particularly through the defence of the rights of individuals and peoples”.
Special die emissionis (First Day of Issue) cancellations may be obtained at the “Arco delle Campane” post office, located in the Charlemagne Wing, on 14 and 15 November 2024.
