Sustainable Mobility: The Governorate Launches Electric Vehicle Leasing Program for its Employees

Vatican City, July 2, 2025 – As part of the “Ecological Conversion 2030” project, launched by the Governorate following the commitments undertaken when the Vatican City State joined the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Governorate continues its strong commitment to more sustainable mobility.

In alignment and continuity with the recent installation and activation of a new network of electric vehicle charging stations within the State—implemented to promote a real transition to low-emission transport options and made accessible to employees of both the Holy See and the Vatican City State—the Governorate has signed several agreements with leading automobile manufacturers.

In the initial phase, the Toyota Group will make available its fully electric models through KINTO, the Group’s Mobility Company, which aims to offer people-centered mobility solutions by combining the most advanced technologies with ultra-low or zero-emission vehicles and high energy efficiency.

The agreement provides for the supply of vehicles through medium- and long-term leasing options, including maintenance and assistance services, and equipped with the latest technologies to ensure comfort, safety, and minimal environmental impact. This initiative is aimed at employees of the Governorate.

The decision to start with an entirely electric fleet is in line with the environmental policies pursued by the Governorate of the Vatican City State. These efforts include the development of infrastructure already made available within the State, reflecting increasing awareness of the environmental impact caused by vehicle circulation—including employees’ private vehicles—and represent a tangible commitment to improving climate conditions, even within the broader metropolitan area of Rome, where the Vatican City State is located.

Through its attention to the environment and its staff, the Governorate once again affirms itself as a working community, taking direct action to promote the common good.

This initial phase will be monitored to assess environmental and organizational impacts, with the intention of later expanding the initiative to other vehicle segments, further strengthening the Governorate’s role as a promoter of innovation and environmental responsibility.

Full details regarding how to participate in the initiative will be made available through the “Economic Services and Mobility” office of the Directorate for the Economy, which can be contacted at:
