He is one of the first four Doctors of the Church of the West, who promoted the evangelization of England and laid down the fundamental norms for chants, which later took his name. Gregory the Great was born to a wealthy Roman patrician family, some time around 540. He received a sound education, studying a range of subjects that went from the law, to the Bible, to the works of the Fathers, in particular of Saint Augustine.

È uno dei primi quattro Dottori della Chiesa d’occidente, promosse l’evangelizzazione dell’Inghilterra e dettò le norme fondamentali del canto che da lui prese il nome. È Gregorio, a cui venne attribuito l’appellativo di Magno. Nato in una patrizia e ricca famiglia romana nel 540 circa, ebbe una buona formazione culturale. I suoi studi spaziavano dal diritto, alla Bibbia, alle opere dei Padri, in particolare di Sant’Agostino.

Gregorio fue llamado con justicia Magno, pues sus obras y virtudes bien lo atestiguaron. Nacido en una noble y rica familia romana en torno al año 540, tuvo una buena formación cultural. Sus estudios abarcaron el derecho, la Biblia y las obras de los Padres de la Iglesia, en particular San Agustín.
