The Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems’ Collaboration with Villanova University

Two young students begin their internship

On 10 September, two young students from Villanova University, Pennsylvania, began an internship at the Internet Service Provider Office of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems and at the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage.

The Internet Service Provider Office is responsible for leading the students’ internship program, an intensive itinerary lasting four months, in which tutors and interns will be involved in activities related to communication and other relevant themes in the sector. It is a productive exchange of synergies, which has the goal of producing tangible results that are mutually satisfying. At the end of the internship, the interns will receive a certificate of internship.

Antonino Intersimone, Director of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems, highlighted that it is not the first time that the Directorate he heads has welcomed students from Villanova University. The collaboration between the two institutions has been ongoing for 20 years. The relationship with Villanova University dates back to the days of the Internet office of the Holy See at the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA). From the very start, the depth of the initiative led to excellent and highly appreciated results. One of the results of earlier collaborations was the creation of virtual tours of the Pauline Chapel and the Sistine Chapel, which were later followed by virtual tours of the Papal Basilicas.

To date, it remains a solid journey of growing interest, that is constantly evolving. The most recent internship program includes activities around the creation of the first infrastructure for instant private messages, to be implemented within the State.

Villanova University is the largest Catholic University in Pennsylvania, United States of America. Founded in 1842, the University has been collaborating with the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems on various initiatives, which in time, have adjusted to the innovations of the services offered, which are increasingly better-performing and reveal needs that are different from the past.
