Activities

The following are the chief activities of the Network and Telephone Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

- planning, management, maintenance and upgrade of the telecommunications network of the State and its components (copper cables, fibre optics, radio links, communication nodes etc.);

-management of the State’s telephone exchange, and its public switched telephone network, PSTN, with characteristics of the Group Switching Centre (GSC) and the Transit Switching Centre, TSW, with special attention to a continuous update of hardware and software, routing and internal and external numbering plan;

- management of internal users, including individual invoicing of traffic, of the fees and the services;

- management of the State’s public telephone network, its systems and its autonomously issued telephone cards;

- planning, installation and maintenance of the State’s and the extraterritorial zones’ switchboards, telephone networks and data transmission networks of various types and sizes;

- management of television signal reception via fibre optics;

- planning, installation and maintenance of the intranet network of the Governorate;

- management of country code 0379 assigned by the ITU – International Telecommunications Union, which is currently not in use
