The conditions and needs of the sick, in the eyes of a throwaway culture, may not respond to rigid and callous canons of profit and productivity. As a consequence the ill can be easily marginalized, especially in modern society. On April 5 and 6 physicians, health care professionals together with patients and volunteers celebrated the Jubilee of the Sick and Health Care Workers for this Holy Year.
The new “San Francesco e Santa Chiara” (Saints Francis and Clare) nursery school inside Vatican City will be inaugurated on Monday, April 14, at 5:00 p.m. The premises will be blessed by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President Emeritus of the Governorate of the Vatican City State. Among others present are Sr. Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate, the two General Secretaries, Archbishop Emilio Nappa, and Atty. Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, and Fr. Franco Fontana, Coordinator of the Chaplains of the Directorates and Central Offices.
“Bellini and Sodoma. Passion of Christ” is the theme of an exhibition that will be inaugurated on Saturday afternoon, 5 April, in Castel Gandolfo’s Apostolic Palace. The exhibition includes, Lamentation over the Dead Christ, by Giovanni Bellini, from the Vatican Pinacoteca, and the Dead Christ (supported by angels), by Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, known as il Sodoma, on loan from the Venerable Archconfraternity of Santa Maria dell’Orto in Rome.
He was known to everyone as “Father Fernando”, as he had not yet been created Cardinal. The then Father Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, joined the Directorate of Telecommunications, now known as the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems, as Director in January 2008.
Remembering this bond, the employees and managers of the Directorate wished to greet him, by sharing a Eucharist celebration, on Thursday morning, 27 March, at the Governorate’s Church of Mary, Mother of the Family, presided by the Cardinal.
Investments in ESG instruments, in line with the ethical principles of the Social Doctrine of the Church, with the absolute exclusion of all instruments aimed at purely speculative ends, and conservative investments aimed at creating value and increasing capital in the medium to long term, are some of the tasks of one of the newest Directories of the Governorate, the Directorate for the Economy. It has two areas of intervention: state accounting, which manages the bookkeeping of the activities of all the Bodies of the State and oversees its patrimony; economic activities, which oversees the Annona (supermarket), the Emporio (emporium), the sales and marketing of philatelic and numismatic products and the Autoparco, the fleet of vehicles.
