The Governorate and the Customs and Monopolies Agency of the Italian Republic sign a Protocol of Cooperation

On Thursday morning, 27 February, the Governorate of Vatican City State signed an important Protocol of Cooperation with the Customs and Monopolies Agency of the Italian Republic at the Agency's headquarters in Piazza Mastai, Rome. The agreement, which is aimed at revitalizing customs cooperation, was signed by Mr. Roberto Alesse, Director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, and by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate.

Pope Francis appoints two Secretaries General

Pope Francis has appointed the following as Secretaries General of the Governorate of Vatican City State, effective 1 March 2025: Archbishop Emilio Nappa, who has been serving as Assistant Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization in the Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches, and as President of the Pontifical Mission Societies; Mr. Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi (lawyer), who has been serving as Deputy Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

Hundreds of people gathered in Saint Peter's Square to pray the Rosary for Pope Francis. Among them, in addition to young people, families, consecrated men and women and lay people, were the cardinals residing in Rome, heads of Dicasteries, members of the Roman Curia and representatives of the Bodies of Government of Vatican City State.

Wooden Lithuanian Cross replaced in Vatican Gardens

With a brief ceremony on Monday morning, 24 February, a restored Lithuanian wooden Cross was officially replaced in the Vatican Gardens. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Lithuania to the Holy See, H.E. Ms. Sigita Maslauskaite-Mažiliene, accompanied by Chief Clerk, Elze Di Meglio. The Cross was restored by the Vatican Museums.

On Friday morning, 21 February, Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, presided at Holy Mass for the employees of the Directorate for Infrastructures and Services. He made two promises: “I will carry you in my heart” and “I will remember you in my prayers and in the daily sacrifice of Mass”.
