A delegation from the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems participates in the 40th PostEurop General Assembly
The 40th PostEurop General Assembly took place in Belgrade, Serbia, from 15 to 17 October.
A delegation of the Post and Philately Service (member of PostEurop since 2012) of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems participated in the General Assembly.
The Assembly opened with speeches from Serbia’s Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Dejan Ristić, and from Serbia’s Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Jelena Begović. These were followed by a video message from the Director General of the Universal Postal Union (IPU), Masahiko Metoki.
As customary, Assembly participants discussed results achieved in the previous year, in relation to financial aspects and developments in postal services, and future projects and objectives for 2025.
Connected to the Assembly via live streaming, the head of Ukraine’s Postal Service spoke about the bomb damage done to the country’s Post Offices and vehicles, but also highlighted that the local postal service is continuing its work without interruption, despite the dangers of war.
The second part of the Assembly was dedicated to reports from international relators on the challenges of Artificial Intelligence, its impact on the postal sector and its possible future prospects from the perspective of business strategies, sustainability and innovation.
PostEurop is an association that brings together 55 public European Postal Services (suppliers of universal service) from 53 countries and territories throughout Europe. Last year, they managed a total of 72 billion letters and 5.5 billion packages. The postal sector employs two million people, serves 356 million homes and 51 million businesses and manages 295,000 distribution points.
